Meet my Parrots: Budgies, Cockatiel and
Amazon.
At that moment I have
four sweet
Budgies, one Cockatiel and one Amazon Parrot and they have nickname: Munchkins.
I couldn't find a better name for
those little, colorful, playful and cute creatures.
The first budgie, who absolutely stole my heart was
Mango.
The poor bird was rescued from the place I was working at that time. He
was in the smallest cage possible with only one toy and two containers:
one for seeds and the other for water. He was screaming, singing and
shaking his head up and down all the time. I didn't think twice about
taking him home, but I had no idea what kind of parrot I took home and how
to deal with that bird. I watched him closely and even without knowledge
about birds I knew something was wrong with his beak. The parrot couldn't
eat. Mango was making weird positions to reach container with his seeds...
Quickly Mango got his beak clipped, bigger cage and more toys. I learned
some things from vets, and from Internet and I found out that Mango was
male. He was afraid of humans, each time I was close he panicked. That
didn't give me much choice, I made my decision that he absolutely needed
another bird companion.

And that's why in our home showed up
Coconut.
After about a week and couple consultations I bring light-blue
budgie from trusted pet store. Coco was different from his older
friend; he didn't scream, didn't run from us. When Mango realized another
bird presents in another cage, he surprised me for the first time. He gave
us the singing concert as I never heard before. I didn't know that budgies
may sing that beautiful! Coconut very fast brought a lot of joy and light to
Mango's life. Coco was different: less scared of us, more social and he
loved to fly very close to our heads, that's why we gave him a nickname:
Coco-Loco:) Mango was singing and Coconut was learning everything from his
older friend. Soon we all knew that Coco is another male in our home. We saw
that color of his cere was changing to darker blue and to prove us right,
Coconut started singing back to Mango. No doubts!

Lemonade
was the third budgie, which I brought home, and she was a yellow beauty.
She was quiet from the beginning and very soon Mango started to show her
attention. Lemonade from the beginning didn't let anybody touch her and she
really did bite! She accepted only birds as her friends. It didn't take a
long time for Mango to win her trust and love. He was her "Romeo" and he
scratched her head very often. She accepted Coconut as a
friend. Everything was perfect about our little trio, we loved watching
couples preen each other, relationship between our budgies was fine. One
thing caught our attention: the more those two lovers spend time with each
other, the more wild was becoming Coco.
I was wondering for a while that the fourth budgie may be one too much, but
watching lonely Coconut and happy couples in the same home... And then we
choose the female beauty to be a Coconut partner. As the previous birds
she got her name from the fruit, so we started calling her
Blueberry.
She became part of our flock shortly before Christmas 2009. Blueberry is
full of live bird, fearless and the youngest one. She stays still when one
of birds try to take her space, she comes back to the cage when she wants
to and she is not afraid of us humans. She is not a Coconut's girlfriend yet,
but we'll see about that.
Our birds treat their cage as a motel at night and during day as a
restaurant mostly. Sometimes they even sleep outside cage, hanging on
spiral rope above cage. We hang toys for them, and put play-gym close to cage.
The only one thing we avoid is a nest house.
Lemonade passed away December 11th 2010 Saturday night. We woke up in the
morning and she was in the bottom of the cage. Her little body was cold. We'll
never forget you Lemon, you'll stay with us in our hearts.
Coconut
crossed Rainbow Bridge in September 2011. He was very social, he loved to
fly over our heads and singing to us. We all miss him...
Plum
is our latest, cute budgie,
taken from our friends. Soon his history and pictures...
Chico
- our Cockatiel
From
time to time I was wondering, how our budgies will exist with
Cockatiel? At the beginning I was afraid, that they'll be fighting with each other. Both: Budgies and Cockatiels are Australian
species, but still different one.
I was lucky, that I have found parrot forum, with Users who was happy parrots slaves, crazy and
determined enough to keep different
species of birds in their houses. Of course nobody was so insane to
keep different kind of parrots in the same cage!
I joined the forum and learned a lot in that community. With time, I made the
decision that I'll do everything what's possible to have my Cockatiel.
I realized, that new bird could be bullied by Budgies, who
have been living here for a while. Even risking keeping birds in the separate
rooms I made my decision: I wanted Cockatiel parrot.

- White Fronted Amazon Parrot
I
felt in love in somebody else Amazon parrot. To be specific, it was
Jake (yellow fronted Amazon parrot), who owns Richard know on Internet
as CaptWest. I was amazed by how smart and connected to human Amazon
parrot can be. For a while I was considering parrot from a good
breeder, I made already deal with them and one day...
I have an addiction: almost every day I'm searching the local CL with
possible pets to re-home. One day I found out add about white fronted
Amazon parrot to re-home. It didn't take me long to respond, make
appointment and when I saw the bird, I knew he is going home with me.
Lucky (that was his name) looked so cute, and he was raised around dogs
and other small birds.
